I work in the trading tribe on some of our risk management tools.
What technology do you use?
Typescript, React, Redux, RxJS, Node.js, Webpack, Jest, PostCSS, SockJS/WebSockets
What it’s like to work in your tribe on a daily basis?
Every day is different, as we are right at the start of the GSTP story.
We are currently working with the StarsWeb team in Toronto to understand the platform they’ve created for delivering server-rendered React applications before starting our journey to build a fully featured, multi-lingual, multi-territory sports betting product!
We’re combining the SBG approach to agile delivery, constantly driving value for our customers, and the technical expertise from The Stars Group. With over 111 million customers worldwide, TSG have got a lot we can learn from in terms of scaling products effectively and efficiently!
StarsWeb includes a powerful platform which allows non-tech colleagues to configure their components and websites and a real-time, hot-reloading component playground to help developers deliver new components effectively.
What has been your proudest moment at Sky Betting & Gaming?
It’s hard to pick just one! In my first year here my team delivered what was then called Bet Tracker (now My Bets) which brought our cash out product to market. More recently I’ve helped design and deliver our award winning RequestABet™ feature on skybet.com which has grown to be such a huge product for us.
Outside of my day job, being involved in the many charity events has been really rewarding and getting involved with the Tech Academy has been a fantastic opportunity to meet new people and really cement my knowledge through teaching others.
Your favourite three things about working for Sky Betting and Gaming…
1. The people and culture. Some of the brightest minds in tech work here and we have a culture that trusts them to work in the best interests of the company
2. The unique challenge of working at scale, especially preparing for key events like the Grand National, and the culture of experimentation that lets us rapidly try new things
3. Speaking at conferences around the world as a representative of the business and the awesome work we do
An interesting fact that no one knows about you…
I was once in a band who were supporting the one and only Chesney Hawkes (please feel to google him if you are not old enough to know who he is) and I accidentally ate the dinner he had ordered!
